The very nice van in the previous post has sold for a very reasonable amount. Some recent project vans have gone for a lot more money so I think this was a bit of a bargain.
I hope the new owner will make contact and we can find out if he likes his new toy.
I have been busy, well as much as I can between the very heavy showers that the UK has been suffering these recent months.
I've started the overhaul of my JB rear axle while this is stripped out I have replaced the crown wheel and pinion to alter the rear axle ratio.
I have as always started a blog on this so if it interests you do take a look.

Two J type vans for sale.
There are two vans currently for sale, the first is on e-bay.
Up for sale due to loss of undercover storage my 1960 Morris JB van. Complete, umolested, genuine comes with two replacement sills. Will be needed see photos. 100% complete. Engine runs,( not recently) Good gear box. Rare factory fitted passenger seat. Twin wiper motors. Underneath photos show that the chassis is in very good order, just the sills are gone both sides, but new ones supplied. Missing windscreen is in van. 1489 cc over head valve B series engine last ran about 3 years ago. Van is on the Isle of Wight. Can deliver at cost of ferry plus fuel if needed. Any questions phone 07785 516755 Jon.
Been kept in secure storage last 7 years. Last on road about 1990.
Have V5 etc. Will require deposit of £ 1000 before delivery via paypal or cheque/ bankers draft, cash balance upon delivery. Or come to the sunny IOW with your trailer and collect her yourself.
Being sold by Jon, an I.O.W. plumber who also owns another van (ex Don Dracup). This is an early 1960 and is an excellent project vehicle. It is a local van, been on the island for many years.
Item number 230815136250
The second is an ice cream van and is for sale in classic car buyer,
Morris JB , 1959, offers. Original coach built ice-cream van. Phone, 07415-616364. East Yorkshire.
My own project JB van has passed its MOT, it is now sitting on axle stands under the carport as I'm about to remove the rear axle for an overhaul and alter the rear axle ratio from 5.625 to 5.125 to 1. This equals about a 9% reduction in engine RPM. This change is to lower engine noise/RPM at any given road speed and to improve the MPG on a long run, it is not that I want to go faster.
I will be doing a "blog" on this modification and will be taking plenty of pictures as I undertake this job.

The penny has dropped.
The rear doors on e-bay have generated many e-mails, it took a phone call to wake me up as to where the doors came from. (Thanks H.)
Do you remember this ex GPO planners van that was sold on e-bay recently? I had forgotten about it as I had heard it was going to join the fleet of other vans that have been converted into ice cream/burgers/fish & chip vehicles, plying there trade on the south bank of the Thames in London.
A couple of the vehicles that they have converted have been well done and a great improvement to what they had become, its a great shame one other van they purchased was such a rare mini-bus with all its original fittings, ended up being converted.
Note the holes in the body work where the GPO lamps were mounted due to the rubber wings. |
The pile of GPO planners van spares, note the curved partition section. |
It could be good news if some of the parts they remove when the vans are converted (80% of the body work is removed and not used) are offered for sale, there are still many project vans out there in urgent need of doors, Door pockets, roof sections etc.

The latest news.
The recent JB ice cream van on e-bay, although sold for £10,300 is back on the e-bay again, why? purchaser failed to pay? or maybe it was a hoax bid? Will we ever know?
Seems it has lost its original registration and does indeed have an age related number issued. I hope somebody will buy this and save it, but it won't be me, I've never been keen on ice cream vans of any make.

Do check out his blog, to see some of the other interesting vehicles there.

The official news about pre-1960 vehicle MOT's,
"Classic and historic vehicles are to be exempted from yearly MoT tests, the government has announced.
Vehicles manufactured before 1960 will no longer have to have to pass an MoT from 18 November, Roads Minister Mike Penning said.
The vehicles make up about 0.6% of the total number of licensed vehicles in Britain but are involved in just 0.03% of road casualties and accidents.
It follows a campaign by the All-Party Parliamentary Historic Vehicles Group.
Mr Penning said the government was committed to cutting out red tape which cost motorists money "without providing significant overall benefits".
"Owners of classic cars and motorbikes tend to be enthusiasts who maintain their vehicles well - they don't need to be told to look after them, they're out there in all weathers checking the condition of the engine, tyres and bodywork," he said.
"Owners of classic vehicles will still be legally required to ensure that they are safe and in a proper condition to be on the road but scrapping the MoT test for these vehicles will save motorists money."
Interesting news about pre-1960 vehicle MOT's, full details to follow but the plan is all pre 1960 vehicles won't need an MOT, I worry about this for various reasons.I wonder how many people will now buy a cheap pre 60's car, no need an MOT, free Tax and cheap club insurance, use it and drive it into the ground as a very cheap form of commuting to and from work. That would reflect badly on proper old vehicle enthusiasts.
Or the "con men" out there, spotting an old car in a field, getting the details from it, applying for a V5c(log book), getting the V5c and then getting the cheapest insurance, this vehicles number plate could now be sold. Maybe they could even spot your project vehicle when you have your garage doors open and do the same to you.
You never know what these "con" men are up too.
Back to the MOT situation, I think I know a bit about vehicles but I think a fresh pair of eyes looking at your pride and joy may well spot something you have missed, I'm always happy to take a vehicle for the test, I want to know if something is wrong with it.
My JB van is on hire this week, promoting our local Diamond Jubilee event, live bands, picnics, hot food and a HOG roast, plenty of things for the kids to do. Running from noon till 10pm. The van is currently bedecked in flags and posters for the event and is being driven around our village and is also parked in various prominent locations to promote this event. I must get the camera fixed and and take a couple of snaps.
